Introducing Downtime Actions

It’s a question we get asked all the time: “what should I do when my store goes down or has an issue?”

That question was the inspiration for the latest feature we launched in Uptime: Downtime Actions.

Downtime Actions will help you resolve issues in seconds or reduce the financial impact of downtime by providing quick actions you can make at the moment of downtime.

When would I use Downtime Actions?

Here are two common examples of when you’d want to use Downtime Actions:

  1. Broken Theme Change: most merchants will make changes to their online store theme and not know an issue was introduced until they check their sales the following day. With Uptime, your test flows would immediately alert you of the issue that was introduced by the theme change, and then you can quickly select the Adjust Shopify theme or Restore Rewind data Downtime Actions to quickly revert the change and get your store back on track

  1. Shopify Storefront Outage: Downtime Actions can help you take control over the areas of your store that are powered by third parties – for example, if Shopify Storefront goes down and your store becomes inaccessible, it doesn’t make sense to continue burning money on paid ads. With Uptime’s 24/7 Shopify monitoring, you’ll get alerted of the outage immediately, and then with Downtime Actions, you can quickly deeplink to your Facebook Ads dashboard to roll back your ad spend until Shopify has resolved the issue.

What downtime actions are there?

For this initial Downtime Actions launch we focused on the most used ad platforms, email/sms marketing platforms, and commonly adjusted Shopify settings. We plan to expand our action options in the near future!

Here are the actions that are available:

Paid Ads: directly link to your Facebook Ad or Google Ads dashboard so you can adjust your ad spend and campaigns

  • Adjust Facebook ads

  • Adjust Google Ads

Data Backups: link to your Rewind Backups dashboard so you can quickly restore or revert critical data on your online store

Email Marketing: link directly to your preferred email marketing platform to quickly pause or delay an email campaign send while you work to resolve an issue on your store

  • Adjust Klaviyo campaigns:

  • Adjust Yotpo campaigns

  • Adjust Mailchimp campaigns

Shopify Settings: quickly adjust your Shopify online store settings in the event of an issue, like reverting a theme change or adjusting your checkout settings

  • Adjust Shopify theme

  • Adjust Shopify checkout settings

How do I adjust what downtime actions appear?

You can adjust which Downtime Actions appear when your store is experiencing an issue from your Uptime settings page. To edit your actions simply head over to the Uptime settings page, and scroll down to the downtime actions section. Then click the Update Downtime Actions button.
